hello,
I'm new to Blue Iris and just got my POE cam system set up with The software. I purchased the iOS app but when I attempt to connect to the server nothing happens. I click connect and the screen just stays the same with the options being cancel and edit. I have both IPs automatically configured from my access key, and used the default user local_console with the password I set for that account and nothing happens. In the users settings I have checked allow remote access. I have also attempted to create new users and also allow remote access but still nothing happens when I try to connect. I'm wondering if anyone has had this issue when getting started or if I'm just missing something.
Thanks in advance,
Billy

Billy - if you can give a bit more info here. Are we assuming that the iOS client is on your wifi network or coming in over the WAN. We need a bit more info about your network. Are you using a VPN to access BI, do you have VLANs configured...etc
Lots of great people on this forum that I am sure will be able to help.

+1 ^^ regarding more info needed.
Can you access BI's built-in webserver from your LAN ? In other words, from a PC, tablet or smartphone, get on the same LAN (local area network) as your BI server, open a browser and type in this URL below, substituting the correct server IP and server port :
Code:
http://Your-BI-server-LAN-IP:Your-BI-server-PORT
What comes up?
P.S. - Welcome to IPCT!

I tried accessing my server from both LAN and WAN and in both instances the app attempts to connect with the button options being cancel and edit and thats it. I am not using a VPN to access BI and I do not have VLANS configured, am i supposed to be doing those things to be able to allow for remote access?

turn off your virus scanner, firewall, defender and any other protection software on your BI PC. From a PC connected to the network try to access the BI web server, from your web browser:
http://Your-BI-server-LAN-IP:Your-BI-server-PORT example: http://192.168.1.234:8081
until you get the web server up and running on the local lan nothing else will work.
Provide a screen shot of the BI web server configuration tab.

That should work if PC's are all on the same LAN , even with no port forwarding.
- What is IP of the BI server?
- What is the IP of another PC where you cannot open BI's webserver?

I forwarded the port in my router settings and reset the firewall settings for BI and after that it worked! Now my iOS app works on LAN and WAN and the BI web server interface works on all my computers. Thank You all so much for the help!

please secure your system. Please use openVPN to access your home network and the BI server.

So based off of this i should not use port forwarding? When i turned off the port forwarding option on my router the app no longer workes on WAN only on LAN

that is correct. You have closed the open door. That is why you should set up a VPN. Most forum members use OPENVPN, it is free or is included in your router .
There are two types of VPN, do not get them confused.
1) one type of VPN hides your activity from the internet, it is outbound, it normally costs a monthly fee to use. Direction is from your home PC to the internet, going to your bank, google, porn sites,,,, this not what you want
2) the other type is used to provide a secure connection onto your local network, in bound to you local home network, from your office computer, your cell phone in your car, tablet at the coffee shop.. This is what you want, it does not have a monthly fee and is normally completely free.
